ved from Belarus and partially destroyed by the Nazis. Only about 300,000 out of two million units remained. Stock restoration began immediately after the liberation of Minsk. Some of the lost material was found in Poland, Germany, and Czechoslovakia, and around 700,000 books of the prewar collection were returned. About one million items have not been found so far, and considerable number of manuscripts and early printed books are among them.
Today the collection of the Bibliology Research Department amounts to about 70,000 units. It includes manuscripts and archival documents which form a part of the National Archive Stock of Belarus as well as early printed books, rare publications of the 19th21st centuries.
Books, like people, have their own fate. In Belarus fate has not been merciful to the written and printed monuments of literature, which have suffered irretrievable losses. Those left are scattered in numerous depositaries of the country and the world. The written language monuments testify that the nation has been able to preserve its mother tongue, its original culture, to create monuments valuable to all the people in incredibly difficult historical conditions.
Books and libraries were created, disappeared, and appeared anew. While there exist people there exist books, if there exist books there exist libraries.

Рукапісны фонд аддзела налічвае каля 1700 адзінак захавання рукапісных кніг і архіўных матэрыялаў, якія з’яўляюцца часткай Нацыянальнага архіўнага фонду Беларусі. Ранейшая з рукапісных кніг была створана ў XIV ст. У складзе калекцыі рукапіс XVI ст. “Тайная тайных, або Арыстоцелевы вароты” на старажытнабеларускай мове, помнікі славянскага і заходнееўрапейскага пісьменства, калекцыя ўсходніх рукапісаў XIVXX стст. і г.д. Вылучаецца калекцыя рукапісных кніг старажытнай традыцыі, у тым ліку беларускага паходжання (евангеллі, пролагі, служэбнікі, жыцці святых, зборнікі слоў, павучэнняў, казанняў і інш.), калекцыя спеўных рукапісаў крукавай і ноталінейнай натацыі. Фонд архіўных матэрыялаў уключае асабістыя фонды К. Каганца, I. Сіманоўскага, Я. Хлябцэвіча, Н. Ватацы, збор матэрыялаў дзеячаў навукі і культуры Беларусі, куды ўваходзяць творчыя рукапісы Ц. Гартнага, 3. Бядулі, Я. Коласа і інш.
The manuscripts collection of the Bibliology Research Department numbers about 1,700 items of the manuscripts and archival documents which form a part of the National Archive Stock of Belarus. The earliest of the preserved manuscripts was created in the 14th century. The collection includes “The Most Secret One or Aristotles Gate” (16th century) in old Belarusian, as well as Slavic, West European and Oriental manuscripts of the 14th20th centuries. An outstanding collection of manuscripts of the old tradition includes those of Belarusian origin (Gospels, the Byzantine calendars, missals, hagiography, collections of tales, sermons, lectionaries, etc.), the collection of the books of chants of the znamennaja and line notation. The archival materials contain the personal collections of Karus Kaganets, loseph Simanowski, Yaugen Khlyabtsevich, Nina Vatatsy, the papers of the scientists and cultural workers of Belarus the creative manuscripts of Tishka Gartny, Zmitrok Byadulya, Yakub Kolas and others.
