Уаддзеле захоўваецца значная калекцыя старадрукаў (выданняў, што выйшлі ў свет да 1830 г.) больш за 30 тыс. асобнікаў. У невялікай калекцыі інкунабулаў (першадрукаў XV ст.) 43 асобнікі, сярод якіх “Liber Chronicarum” (“Кніга хронік”) X. Шэдэля (1493 г.), “La Commedia” (“Боская камедыя”) Дантэ (1481 г.) і інш. Каля 200 асобнікаў утрымлівае калекцыя палеатыпаў (выданняў 15011550 гг.), жамчужынай якой з’яўляецца адзіны ў Беларусі збор выданняў беларускага першадрукара Францыска Скарыны 10 выпускаў (у шасці пераплётах) Бібліі (Прага, 15171519 гг.). Цудоўным шрыфтам, прастатой і вытанчанасцю афармлення вылучаюцца выданні знакамітых друкарскіх дамоў Еўропы Альдаў, Эльзевіраў, Эцьенаў, Фробэнаў, Плантэнаў і інш.
У фондах аддзела 1100 кірылічных старадрукаў, сярод якіх каля 200 асобнікаў (больш за 100 выданняў) з беларускіх друкарняў. Гэта выданні Пятра Мсціслаўца, Васіля Гарабурды, братоў Мамонічаў, друкарняў Еўя, Куцейна, Магілёва, Супрасля, Гродна. 3 выданняў кірылічнага друку трэба таксама адзначыць тры кнігі, выдадзеныя Іванам Фёдаравым, цікавую калекцыю кірыліцы расійскага і ўкраінскага паходжання. У збор беларускіх выданняў на лацініцы XVIXVIII стст. уваходзяць унікальныя асобнікі: кнігі з брэсцкай друкарні Мікалая Радзівіла Чорнага, з друкарняў Ашмян, Слуцка, Нясвіжа, Полацка, Вільні і іншых гарадоў і мястэчак. Каля 2 тыс. асобнікаў налічвае калекцыя рускага грамадзянскага друку XVIII ст., у якой ёсць прыжыццёвыя выданні М.В. Ламаносава, кнігі вядомага рускага асветніка М.І. Навікова і інш. Да яе далучаюцца і 13 выключна рэдкіх выданняў пятроўскага часу (17081725 гг.).
A large collection of over 30,000 items of early printed books (printed before 1830) is kept in the Department. The collection of incunables (books printed in the 15th century) is not numerous and includes 42 titles, among which there are H. Schedel’s Liber Chronicarum (Book of Chronicles, 1493), Dantes La Commedia (The Divine Comedy, 1481) and others. The pearl of the collection out of about 200 items of 15011550 is 10 issues (in 6 bindings) of Bible (Prague, 15171519) printed by the first Belarusian printer Francysk Skaryna. The editions of the famous European printing houses of Aldus, Elsevier, Etiens, Frobens, Plantins and others stand out with their beautiful type, simplicity and finesse of design.
The stocks of the Department contain 1,100 Cyrillic early printed books including about 200 copies (over 100 editions) from Belarusian printing houses. These are editions of Pyotr Mstsislavets, Vasil Garaburda, the Mamonich brothers and the printing houses of Yewye, Kutsein, Maguilyow, Suprasl, Grodna. Among the Cyrillic collections we should also mention three books published by Ivan Fyodorov, an interesting collection of the Cyrillic prints of Russian and Ukrainian origin. The collection of Belarusian editions in Roman type from the 16th18th centuries includes unique copies: books from Mikalaj Radzivill Chorny’s printing house in Brest, as well as from the printing houses of Ashmyany, Slutsak, Nyasvizh, Polatsak, Vilnya and other towns and townships. There are about 2000 copies in the collection of Russian civil type printing of the 18th century, which holds life time editions of Mikhail Lamanosau, books of the famous Russian enlightener Mikalaj Navikou and others. It includes thirteen exceptionally rare impressions of the times of Peter the Great (17081725).
