In 1971, there was the idea to organize the solo exhibition of Mikhail Staniuta for his 90th birthday in the halls of the Belarusian Union of Artists. Art expert Barys Krepak and artist Jauhien Kulik helped to select the works and frame them. Valieryj Palikarpau, the young director of the Baranavicy Regional Museum, published a small but informative catalogue13 about the creative heritage of Mikhas Staniuta: 54 works of paintings, watercolors, pastels and drawings in pencil, and all 11 exhibitions in which the master

took part. As for the artist, the catalogue became the greatest value and documentary confirmation of his creative activities.
This anniversary final exhibition in the Union of Artists determined the fate of his paintings. The exhibition was visited by Aliena Aladava, the director of the State Art Museum, who discovered ‘amazing Staniuta for herself. A year after the exhibition, Staniuta sold two paintings ‘SelfPortrait’ and ‘Portrait of Mikhas Filipovich, an Artist’, and 9 graphic works. In different years, the exposition of the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus included three of his paintings ‘Portrait of the Daughter’ (1923), ‘Portrait of Mikhas Filipovich, an Artist’ (1925) and ‘SelfPortrait’ (1935). Thanks to these works, he entered the history of Belarusian art in the first half of the 20th century.
Mikhas Piatrovich died from a heart attack on January 2, 1974. Artist Ihar Barkhatkou accurately noted that Staniuta is a bearer of the local mentality. He warmly and truly expressed the spirit of his time. Contrary to the pathos of the official Soviet art, he was able to preserve and depict the intimacy, comfort and harmony of a persons private life.
He wanted to remain a man of art with his aesthetic views of the early 20th century and a free artistdreamer with his own simpleminded manner. This album expands our understanding of the artist not only as a master of the 1920s1930s, but for the first time it gives us the information about the graphic heritage of Mikhas Staniuta in the 1940s1970s, including those from private collections. They present the artist’s original and undoubted mastery.
